The Joan Milburn Scholarship Fund has reached its goal of $1000 in donations!

Bexar County Medical Society Alliance Members donated $1000 in memory of Joan Milburn, an always dedicated, hard-working supporter of the Alliance, not only of Bexar County but the Texas Medical Association Alliance and the Southern Medical Association Alliance. This is truly a special award for some young person entering the field of nursing. Thank you to all who contributed to Joan’s wonderful memory.

At our March 19, 2009 past president’s luncheon we contributed clothing and monetary donations to Dress for Success. The mission of Dress for Success (DFS) San Antonio is to promote the economic independence of disadvantaged children and families by providing professional attire, a network of support and the career development tools to help women thrive in work and in life.

Dress for Success San Antonio CEO/Executive Director, Pamela Taylor, welcomed questions from the group. BCMSA members donated a generous rack full of suits, accessories including shoes, hose and jewelry, and $190.00 to this organization helping women to work in our community.

Doctor’s Day was March 30, 2009. A proclamation from the Greater Chamber of Commerce of San Antonio declaring the day to honor all physicians was announced by a representative of the city and BCMS CEO-Executive Director John Wisniewski at the South Alamo Medical Group Clinic. Dr. Roberto Trevino was on hand to receive the proclamation for his work in the clinic and treatment of diabetic patients. The Alliance provided healthy refreshments and support of the clinic’s work as well as all other physicians in Bexar County. Special thanks go to Alliance members, Mary Anne Roman, VP of Civic and Philanthropic Affairs and Linda Ruiz, recording secretary for their efforts in organizing this special day.
