Welcome to the BCMS Alliance.
We're glad you're checking us out.
Autism Society of Greater San Antonio announces "The Second Saturday Mix and Mingle."
The Autism Society of Greater San Antonio is proud to announce the creation of "The Second Saturday Mix and Mingle" which is an opportunity to socialize with others who support loved ones with Autism. This is also a chance for those over 21 with ASD to come and mingle as well. The first social night will take place on Saturday, June 14, 2008 at SoHo Lounge.
SoHo Lounge is located at 12289 Nacogdoches across from Midnight Rodeo Night Club in San Antonio. The event will start at 7:00 PM and run until 9:00 PM (You may stay longer if you wish.). Music doesn't begin until 9:00 PM, so there will be plenty of opportunity to chat. Please remember this is a bar, so only 21 years and older will be allowed in.
For more info, please contact Anne Foster (afoster@frostbank.com).
Your input is needed!
The Autism Society is also in the process of organizing a schedule for the 2009 Monthly Training Sessions at the UTHSC. We would greatly appreciate your input on topics to be presented during these sessions. Please feel free to suggest anything related to the Autism Spectrum. Send suggestions to Michelle Barber at mbarber71@satx.rr.com.
BCMS Alliance Members Needed for BCMS Foundation Gala Committee
Please read the letter below from Louise Chumley. If you are interested, either call or E-mail Merrill Ellis (maae40@aol.com), BCMS Alliance President, so that she can put you on the list to be contacted for upcoming meetings:
Merrill,
I met with the BCMS Foundation board this week, and we are ready to start organizing the December Gala. We need to get a core group together from the Alliance and designate a go-to person (chair) that will oversee our part in planning the Gala. Last year, we did the silent auction with the help of the Foundation manager and some decorating. Cory Williams and Ann Bay are 2 new board members for the Foundation and they are working on the Gala committee. If you know of others who are interested, we would need to know their names. We did do a walk-through at the Grand Hyatt and it is a very pretty space for our event. Take care.

The
Bexar County Medical Society Alliance is a multi-faceted organization
of physician spouses, both male and female, organized to support civic,
philanthropic, and public health projects in the community, to foster
friendships within our family of medicine and to become active in legislative
matters that support the free and unfettered practice of medicine. Our
bylaws state that active members shall include "spouses of physicians
who are, were, or eligible to be members of the Bexar County Medical Society."
This includes spouses of active physicians, retired, or widowed spouses
who have not re-married outside of the profession, and spouses of interns,
residents, and medical students as well. We have some other "Honorary
and Special Categories," too. Where both spouses are physicians,
we welcome both as members of our organization.

Physicians need to let Congress know that passage of the Save Medicare Act of 2008 (S 2785) is critical for physicians and their patients.
Dear Alliance Member,
With a 10.6-percent cut in Medicare payments to physicians looming on July 1, physicians need to let Congress know that passage of the Save Medicare Act of 2008 (S 2785) is critical for physicians and their patients. Call the American Medical Association Grassroots Hotline at (800) 833-6354 to be connected to your representatives in Congress and urge them to cosponsor and pass S 2785.The bill prevents the Medicare physician fee cut, retains current payment levels for the remainder of 2008, and raises payments by 1.8 percent in 2009. The bill also continues "rural extender" provisions set to expire and gives Congress time to work on a long-term solution to the broken Medicare payment system.Testifying before the House Small Business Committee, AMA representatives urged Congress to take immediate action to avert cuts that will harm seniors' access to care.
"There are only 53 calendar days, and substantially fewer legislative days, remaining for Congress to fix this problem," said AMA Trustee Cecil B. Wilson, MD. "Time is short, and we urge Congress to act before it is too late."
I just took action on this issue and thought you might find it interesting too. Please TAKE ACTION and help educate our Senators on what is best for our spouses patients. Share a personal experience. Don't leave it for tomorrow, please contact them today!
